DOLLHOUSE CHRONICLES
Scroll below for my Lilliputian world of moments—the beauty and the disaster of everyday life—all chronicled in 1:12 scale.
Growing up, my dolls were more than toys—they were among my closest friends. Sometimes they were my only friends—companions and confidants who sparked my first foray into writing. I turned my dolls’ play into words, creating a written world of privilege and adventure I was not fortunate enough to live in. I wove stories about my dolls’ lives, families, dreams, and all things happy and glorious. I never wrote about their struggles, trauma, anxiety, or pain, mainly because those themes were too close to my own reality.
Through my doll-life writing, I practiced empathy, generosity, problem-solving, and emotional expression—skills that later shaped my real life.
Which got me thinking: Why not use my extensive collection of dollhouses and dolls to chronicle their miniature lives once again—as I did when I was just a kid? But this time, the narratives would be more realistic and less pie-in-the-sky. Ten dollhouses and more than a hundred dolls later, I’ve built an entire miniature universe, ready for its online debut.
